We believe that mental health affects everybody. You may be the 1 in 4 that will experience poor mental health this year, or you may be close to someone else that does. This is why we will never prejudge what has brought you to our service. We just want to help.

Positivity is a choice and we know all too well how hard making that choice can be. We will support you to make positive life choices and celebrate with you when your life takes on a new positive direction. You can do this.

  1. 'On tour' crew member. - A bank of volunteers who make sure there is always someone friendly and qualified in our drop ins to offer a warm welcome and a confidential chat. Training provided. Requires full DBS clearance for vulnerable adults.
  2. Events team member - a team of volunteers who orchestrate our annual timetable of events to include Hopwood street party, Armed forces Day, LGBTQ Pride, North East Skinny Dip and Community winter gathering.
  3. Campaigners - Mental health still isn't getting the recognition and support from the government and local councils that it should be and so it's up to us as the people to campaign for improvements to the services and this team work with our data and analysis to inform larger organisations of grassroots evaluations and personal experiences.
  4. Crisis text talkers - We are currently recruiting a pool of volunteers to be available over the Christmas period to befriend those who are isolated and converse over messenger. Must have own phone and reliable connection to the internet. Training given.

A brief history...

Positive Hull first existed as a free daily drop in to combat isolation and ran from a studio on Posterngate, Hull called Jen's Pick me up.  It allowed people from all walks of life to take refuge and enjoy a chat and a coffee. The conversation flowed and it proved very popular.

(Sept 16 - May 17)

Moving on..

From June 2017 Positive Hull CIC became nomadic in it's approach in an attempt to reach out to more isolated people. The 'on tour' crew visited a different public venue every day, for a week  a month. After 7 months we had a good idea of which 15 venues were going to work the best for our service.

(June 17 - Jan 18)

Let's create communities

In January 2018 we started our timetable. This meant we  would be returning to each of the 15 venues once a month and it became easier for people to find us.

We toured for the first 3 weeks of every month.

Basecamp, 81 Witham

We were invited to use the space in the brand new PB Clinical hypnotherapy suite at 81 Witham, Hull, HU9 1AT. We used this opportunity to restructure and develop the volunteering programme and the service has grown to currently included 25 new volunteers.
